Gerry Cunningham

Gerry M. Cunningham, 75, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on March 30, 2026. Born on January 5, 1951, Gerry was raised in Shady Grove, just outside of Adamsville, Alabama. Those early roots shaped the man he became—grounded, hardworking, and deeply connected to the values of family and perseverance. In 1971, Gerry moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where he worked as a civilian with the United States Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base. After completing his contracts, he relocated to Tallahassee, Florida, where he began his career with Centel Telephone Company. In 1984, Gerry transitioned into the traffic control industry, where he remained with the same company through decades of change and ownership. His loyalty and dedication reflected the kind of man he was—steady, dependable, and committed to doing things the right way. Gerry made his home in Tallahassee, where he built a life defined by quiet strength and unwavering responsibility. Outside of work, he had a passion for diving—exploring sinkholes and caves throughout the Florida Panhandle. He also served for many years as a reserve member of the Leon County Tactical Dive Team, reflecting both his skill and his willingness to serve his community. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Cunningham and Lucille Cunningham, and his sister, Dale Jewel. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha C. Cunningham. On June 12 of this year, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary—a testament to a lifetime of commitment, partnership, and love. He is also survived by his two sons, Gordon Cunningham and his wife, Erin, and Cecil Cunningham and his wife, Peaches; and by his grandchildren, Grant and Ellie May. He is further survived by his sister, June Rose Turner and her husband, Rod; his brother, George Henry “Hank” Cunningham and his wife, Andee Church; his sister-in-law, Janice Jones; as well as many nieces and nephews around the world. He will be deeply missed by his family, who will carry forward his memory and the values he instilled. Gerry never missed a chance to spend time with his grandchildren, and those moments will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
