James Franklin Henley

James Franklin Henley, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. James was born the youngest of 5 children to Emmett and Lila (Adams) Henley in Colquitt, Georgia. He attended Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. James was a gifted athlete in High School, receiving the Major Letter of Attainment in Football and Track, among many other achievements in multiple sports. After graduation in 1961, he enlisted in the Armed Forces of the United States Army. He served as Combat Engineer in Stuttgart, Germany as an expert sharpshooter. On December 31, 1976, he married the love of his life, Alma Henley (Slaughterbeck), in Tallahassee, Florida. After serving in the United States Army, James worked as an electrician in the Electrical Industry Labor Union throughout the United States where he served as a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over 57 years. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose for over 50 years, earning his Pilgrim Degree in 1991. James was a humble, quiet gentleman who had very strong values and did everything with honesty and integrity. He had a kind soul with incredible patience who always made time to help others. James had many hobbies and was an avid sportsman who loved fishing, hunting and camping. He will be remembered and deeply missed by the many lives he touched. He is proceeded in death by his father, Emmett Henley, mother and stepfather, Lila and Mac McCuen, brothers: Wayne, Samuel, and Donald Henley, daughter, Kenna Bryant, and son-in-law, Harold Parker Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Alma Henley, sister, Johnnie Mae Gramling, children Robert Henley (Connie), Lisa Parker (late husband Harold Jr.), Susan Parker (Brian Sr.), along with grandchildren: Amy Parker, Brian Parker Jr., Ryan Parker, Harold “Trey” Parker III, Randall Dunn Jr., Janie Knoll, and Lacey Sprowes, great-grandchildren: Gracie Parker, Lucas Parker, Rheese Parker, Lynden Parker, Hunter Dunn, Elijah Garrett, and Elowen Knoll, along with many nieces and nephews. James, your family thanks you for your sacrifice and service to our Nation. We love you. A memorial ceremony will be held at the Moose Lodge in Tallahassee on July 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Military funeral honors and committal service will be held at the National Cemetery in Tallahassee, Florida on July 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in James' memory may be made to Big Bend Hospice or Mooseheart (Mooseheart Child City & School, Mooseheart, Illinois 60539).
