It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Daniel Mack Jr., affectionately known as Danny, who left this world on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the age of 70, at his home in Crawfordville, FL. Born on February 28, 1954, in Washington, DC, to Joseph Mack Sr. and Mary Bennett Mack, Danny’s love for family, the ocean, motorcycles, muscle cars, and life itself touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Danny was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Mack, who passed in 2022. He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Debra Kilgour Mack, and his beloved daughter, Olivia. He also leaves behind Olivia's mother and his ex-wife, Sheila Mack, and Olivia’s husband, Shyam Mistry, as well as his cherished granddaughter, Aurora, who was the light of his life. Danny's family includes his sister Rose Dodson, sister-in-law Bernita Mack, his stepsons John Torres and wife Greta, and Robert Torres and wife Megan; his stepdaughters Amy Torres Green and Amber Torres Veasy and husband Jesse; and his treasured step-grandchildren Tori, Kaya, Cassie, Daysha, Allie, Jack, Hunter, Luis, Phoenix, Dathon, and Kylie. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Karen Cauley and her husband, Scott, along with countless friends who knew him as Danny, Danny Mack, Danny-Pop, Dad, and most recently, Papa. Though born in Washington, DC, Danny’s heart belonged to Tallahassee, where he grew up and made lifelong memories. A student at Cobb Junior High School and Leon High School, Danny later became the owner of JJ's Sunken Subs, a local favorite. But his passion was the beach at St. George, searching for the perfect wave to ride. Danny loved spending time with family and friends, sharing his love of the beach, surfboards, and rock and roll. His great attitude, cool smile, and loving nature left a mark on all who knew him. He lived a life full of love, laughter, and joy, and will be remembered for his spirit and the happiness he brought to those around him. A Celebration of Danny’s Life will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Abbey Funeral Home with burial to follow in Tallahassee Memory Gardens, 4037 North Monroe Street, Tallahassee, FL 32303. Family will receive guests during reception at Abbey Funeral Home, immediately following the burial. All who knew and loved Danny are invited to join us in honoring the life of a man who will forever be a part of the heart and soul of Tallahassee. Though his time with us has ended, Danny’s spirit will forever ride the waves, and his memory will continue to bring smiles to those who cherished him.
