Lance Lloyd Porter

Lance Lloyd Porter passed away on July 1, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born June 2, 1940 in Albany, Oregon to Lloyd and Norma Porter. His early years were spent on the farm at Scravel Hill and Cottonwoods near Albany. He graduated from Albany Union High School in 1958 and became a millwright in the Willamette Valley. Lance married Freida Loy in 1960, and they were married for 58 years. They had 3 children, Robin, Jeffrey, Karla and raised their grandson Matthew, who affectionately called him Papa. They have 2 grandchildren Matthew (Laura) & Alex, and 4 great grandchildren, Ryan, Rhys, Liam, and Skylar; all dearly loved by Lance. Lance was always a good son, husband, father and brother but when he accepted Jesus into his life he never turned back and faithfully attended church, studied the Bible and prayed constantly. No one could deny the power of Christ in Lance’s life. Lance helped his father on the farm growing up and when he married Freida they moved to Harrisburg. They built a beautiful, unique octagon house they designed themselves in the Oregon Coast Range. He later retired as a millwright from Pope & Talbot in Halsey, Oregon. After he retired, they moved to Pensacola for Matthew to finish high school and college. They moved to Tallahassee in 2016 as they wanted to be near their great grandkids. Lance & Freida attended Grace Church of Tallahassee, where they served in various roles as they did in all their churches and surrounding community. Lance enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing and camping. He and Freida both took up bow hunting together. He loved camping with family and siblings. He was usually the first one up, had a fire built and breakfast started. He enjoyed being with family and was always the first to call his siblings on their birthday. Of course, with the 3- hour time difference the early calls were received with sleepy voices. Lance was amazingly generous, hard -working, faithful in his promises, humble, neighborly, funny and devoted to his family. No one was a stranger to him, and he shared Jesus with everyone he met. Once his sister heard him answer the phone and he talked for a long time after he hung up, she asked him who it was, and he said he didn’t know it was a wrong number but they wanted to talk. Another antidote is that he would perk his coffee in the pot in the morning than cook asparagus for dinner in the same percolator. No matter what was going on in Lance’s life his motto was “It’s all good”. Now that he’s with Jesus it really is all good! Lance is proceeded in death by his wife, Freida; daughter, Robin; and son, Jeffrey. He is survived by daughter Karla, granddaughter Alex; grandson, Matthew and his wife Laura; and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his six siblings: Donna Porter-Mullen; Patti Porter-Laughlin; Nancy Porter; Monte Porter; Debi Porter-Young; and Daniel Porter.
