Maria Pirone-Wingerson

Maria Pirone-Wingerson, 77, affectionately known as “Omi,” transitioned to her heavenly home at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. She was born to Wilhelm and Margarete Danninger on September 18, 1945, in Landshut, Germany. Maria is preceded in death by her brother, Wilhelm Danninger, her first husband, Billy Freeman and her second husband, Richard Wingerson. Our mom met our dad, Billy, in her hometown of Landshut, Germany in 1963, where he was serving in the United States Army. He bought her the first hamburger she ever had. They married in Key West, Florida in 1965 and would live in Kassel, Grafenwoehr, Regensburg and Giessen, Germany and El Paso, Texas, where they purchased their very first home. Mom also lived in Washington State, Colorado, Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where she met Richard in 1993. While living in Ft. Lauderdale, Mom worked for Blockbuster and Pet Supermarket and enjoyed the beach and travelling with Richard. They were eventually married in May 2003 by Elvis at the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel in Nevada. They moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 2006 where she worked for the Department of Environmental Protection until her retirement in 2011. Throughout her life, she enjoyed maintaining her home, painting, gardening, playing cards, watching birds outside her window and from her patio, and walking Mookie, her beloved dog. During her routine walks she would meet up with her wonderful neighbors in the mornings and late afternoons. She also travelled back to Germany often to visit with her siblings, nieces, nephew and cousins. She will be dearly missed by her loving family, which include her daughters, Deanna Trahan (Mark) of Tallahassee, FL and Denise Carrier (Michael) of Winter Garden, FL, her stepsons, Scott Wingerson of Peachtree City, GA and Kirk Wingerson (Trish) of Orlando, FL, her five grandchildren, Stefanie Mattos (Daniel), Ocoee, FL, Bradley Carrier of Oviedo, FL and Sam Carrier of Tallahassee, FL, Kaya and Keaton Wingerson, her four great-grandchildren, Remy and Delaney Mattos, Harper and Ellie Carrier. She is also survived by her loving brother and sister, Helmut Danninger (Christel) of Munich, Germany and Greti Krug (Georg) of Bad Reichenhall, Upper Bavaria, Germany. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at her residence in Tallahassee, FL. In lieu of flowers, please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
