Mr. William "Billy" W Creamer

William Wood Creamer, known as Billy to family and friends, passed away on April 30th at 6:06 a.m. while surrounded by his loving family. As a Tallahassee native, he was born on August 4, 1942, making him the oldest son to William Creamer and Katie Yates Creamer, of blessed memory. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Ellen Creamer Poppell. He is survived by the love of his life, Cecelia Jester Creamer, his wife of 56 years; sons, Mike and John (Beth); grandchildren, Reagan, William, Addison, and Aidan; brothers, George (Donna) and Lamar (Martha). Following his graduation from Florida High, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served as a Tank Commander and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal. He also worked for the State Road Department for a short time as a heavy equipment operator. He then went on to work for the Tallahassee Fire Department in 1966 and proudly served until his retirement in 1996. Before retiring, Billy earned the title of Driver/Operator and was especially proud to become an EMT. While at the department, he helped train many young recruits, and was admired and held in high esteem by all who worked with him. He was a Charter Member of the Tallahassee Professional Firefighters. He was also honored to be appointed as a special deputy at the Leon County Sheriff’s Office through four consecutive sheriffs. Billy was known for his quick wit, ability to make others laugh, and his genuine passion to serve others. He was an incredibly creative person and a wonderful artist. He enjoyed pen and ink drawings, with much of his work depicting life at the fire station. Billy even had a piece of art displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Billy loved his family deeply. He was known as “Pa” to his grandchildren and “Uncle Billy” to nieces, nephews, and neighbors. He delighted in making each of his family members feel special and taught them the importance of laughter. He was also very proud of both of his little brothers’ accomplishments. Most importantly, Billy gave his heart to Jesus and called him Lord and Savior. Billy was a member at Northwoods Baptist Church with his wife, Cecelia. Visitation is at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 3rd at Abbey Funeral Home. The funeral service starts at 11:00 a.m. and interment will follow in Tallahassee Memory Gardens’ Garden of Peace. The family would like to thank Dr. Beaty, his team, and all of the ICU nurses who lovingly and compassionately cared for Billy. The family also thanks the team at Big Bend Hospice House, who softly and warmly eased Billy out of this life and into the next.
