Mr. Charles S Snurkowski

September 20, 1949 - April 2, 2022

Charles S. Snurkowski, 72, of Panama City, Florida, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022, while surrounded by his loving family. He was the only son of Charles Snurkowski, of blessed memory, and Rita Corby Snurkowski, who survives. He was born in Quonset Point, Rhode Island on September 20, 1949. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his two sons, Charles Andrew Snurkowski and Mathew Lee Snurkowski (wife, Lila J. Snurkowski); four grandchildren Lyric Snurkowski, Kayleigh Ann Bendawald, Ava Snurkowski and Madison Snurkowski; and one great-granddaughter, Ember Rose Bendawald. Further, he is survived by his two sisters, Carolyn M. Snurkowski and Nancy S. Hardison (husband, Richard A. Hardison). Following in this father’s footsteps, he joined the United States Navy and served for 21 years as an Electronics Warfare Officer and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. He served in several different locations throughout the United States and abroad. He served his country proudly and devoted his life to his military service, which included getting his Naval Postgraduate Master degree in Systems Technology. At Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey, he had the proud honor, as airbase coordinator, to receive many dignitaries, most notably President George W. Bush. He ended his distinguished military career at Lakehurst. Following his retirement, he dedicated his time to caring for his family. He enjoyed fishing, sailing, talking globally as a HAM radio operator, and electronics. His most favorite thing to do would be playing with his “trons” and collecting old TV and radio tubes, his prize possessions. In addition, some of his many civilian accomplishments included expert pool man for his mom and dad, teaching his mother (72 years of age) how to swim and repairing anything that broke. He was naturally elevated to the civilian rank of free handyman for his family. When he was home in Panama City, he never missed a day emailing back and forth with his mother. Of course he taught her how to use her IMac and was oftentimes her technical support. And he loved every moment of it! He had a dry wit and never let a day go by without making the family laugh. Life, whether good or bad was “great”. He will be missed by all but especially by his 99.5 year old mother who loved him with all her heart and spent many of his last days caring for her. The family would like for you to know that he was a private, tender-hearted son, brother and father, and all were very proud of him so please join us in honoring this true patriot. The funeral is 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Abbey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Tallahassee Memory Gardens, Garden of Peace.
