Juliet Louise Brownlee

One of the sweetest, most loving humans to ever walk the earth, Juliet Louise (Greco) Brownlee, 91, passed away peacefully on the first day of summer, Saturday, June 21, 2025. She preferred to be called Julie, was affectionately known as Nanny (which became her grandparent name in the 1980s), and was also lovingly referred to as Julia by at least one of her siblings. Her transition to heaven was supported by the compassionate staff at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare’s Big Bend Hospice, following several years residing at Seven Hills Rehabilitation. Julie was born in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, on February 24, 1934, to Achille and Theresa Barbara (Scicchitano) Greco. She was the last surviving sibling of eight children, preceded in death by her five brothers—Anthony, Claudius, Samuel, William and a brother who died in infancy—and her two sisters, Rose and Seraphine. Julie always had an independent spirit. She was raised in the Catholic Church but boldly left to marry the love of her life, a Protestant man. She often shared the story of how their marriage was considered “mixed” because of their different faiths. When her priest demanded to speak with her fiancé privately, she stood her ground: “If you won’t say it in front of me, you won’t say it at all.” Julie and Marvin M. Brownlee were married on July 25, 1953, by chaplain- Major James Edden- on the Pennsylvania Army base- Indiantown Gap Military Reservation- where they met during the Korean War. They shared over 50 years of marriage until Marvin’s passing in 2004. Julie and Marvin originally met on a blind date- but they were meant to be the dates for other people. Julie said that when their eyes met, she heard a bell ring, “and it was so funny because I had never heard anything like that before.” She took it as a sign and found her destiny. Julie devoted her life to caring for her family and serving her community. Early on, she acquired courage, confidence, and character as a Girl Scout. She answered the call during the Korean War to serve as a secretary. She later volunteered in various community groups, served as class mother and Den Mother, and was active in her church. In her golden years, she spent countless hours- alongside fellow members of Timberlane Church of Christ’s Golden Triangle group- making teddy bears for sick children. As a homemaker, she created a warm and welcoming home, always ready to feed extra friends and visiting family at the dinner table. She was a natural hostess who made newcomers feel like part of the clan. Her legendary spaghetti sauce, made in bushels during the summer, filled jars that sustained countless family meals and were generously shared with friends and loved ones. She helped raise and care for three generations of children, becoming a great-grandmother in 2011. Her love for “puppy dogs” was lifelong and devoted; she always had a faithful companion (or two or three) until her move to Seven Hills. Surely, a joyful pack greeted her at Heaven’s gates, tails wagging. Julie was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her parents; her siblings; and one of her daughters, Billie Jean Payton. She is survived by her three children: Jan Marie Arnold (Michael), Bobbie Jo Brownlee, and James Ray Brownlee (Lisa); three grandchildren: Leilani Rae Aletras, Juliet Cathryne Arnold, and Marvin Shane Brownlee; and one great-grandson, Logan Michael Aletras. She also leaves behind her beloved sister-in-law, Joy Greco, a sweet son-in-law, Bill Payton, along with a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews—all of whom carry a part of her legacy and were profoundly loved by her.
