Mr. Larry G. Parker

Larry G. Parker, 86, of Tallahassee, Florida, peacefully passed away and joined his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 14th, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family. The only son of Gordon Emory Parker and Helen V. Parker, of blessed memory, he was born in Lakeville, Indiana on November 13, 1936. Larry was an engineer with CSX Railroad for 40 years and was also a proud 40-year member of the Railroad Union. A devout Baptist, he loved his Lord and was a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church and late in life attended Thomasville Road Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading the Bible and the Sunday School lessons and used every opportunity to spread the Gospel. He also loved spending time with the leaders and scouts of BSA - Troop 10, which included his grandson, Chason. He spent many weekends camping with the troop where he, as a coffee connoisseur, always had a fresh pot on for the leaders. Larry served for many years in the local REACT chapter and was the founding member and Captain of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Posse. Their volunteer efforts helped control traffic flow for football games as well as search and rescue. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, teaching, and had a passion for running. He could also be found cutting down trees, pulling stumps and helping his neighbors. There is not one friend or family member that cannot share stories of him being their handyman or mechanic. However, the most important thing to him was spending time in loving service to his family. He is survived by his best friend and the love of his life of 62 years, Virgie Bruce Parker, his four children and their families, Gordon Larry Parker (Dawn), Ellen Lorraine Bittinger (Jeff), William Bruce Parker (Marsha) and Helen Marie Parker as well as five grandchildren, Emory Rand Parker (Colleen), Richard Jeffery Bittinger, Brennan Hensal Ackermon, Chason Alexander Parker and Andrew Lawrence Parker and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Hope Parker; and his sister, Sandra Jean Thomas (Robert). Visitation is from 5:30pm – 7:30pm on Tuesday, April 18th, 2023, at Abbey Funeral Home. The funeral service is 2:00pm, Wednesday, April 19th, 2023, at Abbey Funeral Home, with interment following at Tallahassee Memory Gardens, Garden of the Apostles.
