Ms. Matilda "Tillie" Williamson

On November 16, 2023, the world bid farewell to a remarkable woman, Mrs. Matilda Kolich "Tillie" Williamson, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Tillie, born on March 10, 1940, in the small village of Dragalic, Yugoslavia, was the cherished daughter of Joseph Trnka and Tereza Pintar Trnka. Tillie's early years were woven into the fabric of a storybook, growing up with her parents and six siblings in a modest home with a dirt floor in Dragalic. They shared a community well for their cooking and bath water, yet from these humble beginnings, Tillie's spirit would soar. At the age of 19, Tillie embarked on a courageous journey to America, traveling by boat to Ellis Island, where she was warmly welcomed by her great aunt and uncle. From there, her path led her to Florida, where she would ultimately meet her beloved husband and establish a beautiful family. Known affectionately as "Mamaw" to those fortunate enough to share in her love, Tillie was the heart and soul of her family. Her home was a haven for all, a place where everyone felt welcomed, and the aroma of her delicious homemade meals wafted through the air. Tillie was the true matriarch, presiding over weekly family dinner nights with warmth and joy. Her green thumb was legendary, transforming her porch and yard into a haven of beauty with flourishing maple trees, fragrant lilies, and blooming gardenias. Tillie's love for nature was a testament to her nurturing spirit, and her gardens served as a living legacy of the beauty she cultivated in both her surroundings and the hearts of those she touched. Mrs. Williamson was preceded in death by her loving parents, her devoted husband Joseph Wayne Williamson, and her precious daughters Tereza Williamson Carter and Jodi Ellen Williamson. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and warmth that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew her. Tillie is survived by her grandson Joseph Carter, his wife Cecillia Carter, and their children Zara Carter and Ahri Carter. Her granddaughter Kayla Carter, her fiancé Jonathon Gilbert, and their two children Carter Gilbert and Tereza Gilbert will carry forward the torch of Tillie's enduring love and grace.
