Mr. Paul Maige Gibson

Paul Maige Gibson passed away into the loving arms of his Savior on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at the age of 66. He had lived with a long-life battle of Multiple Sclerosis since he was diagnosed at age 24. Paul is survived by three daughters, Cara Hunt, Amanda Gibson and Johanna Bell (Dustin). He left behind nine grandchildren: Bethany, Christa, Scott “Bubba”, Elijah, Kaylin, Malachi, Micah, Gracelyn “Gracie” and Elisha. Visitation is 12:00 noon Thursday, September 19, followed by the funeral at 1:00 at Abby Funeral Home in Tallahassee. Then a graveside burial at Tallahassee Memorial Gardens. Paul was born in Tallahassee on October 11, 1957 to Jimmy and Ona Marie “Ree” Gibson. He was preceded to death by both parents in 2021. He had two sisters, Donna Formby (Rick) and Priscilla Davidson (Jack). As a young man, Paul was raised in a Christian home and was a member of East Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and anything outdoors. He graduated from Godby High School in 1975, where he was a member of the band and served as captain for his last two years and was a solo cornetist his senior year. He also received awards for his outstanding woodworking abilities and built several pieces of furniture. He attended TCC and worked in a cabinet shop. Later, he joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Oklahoma. He was honorably discharged in 1980 and then attended FSU to continue his computer science studies and painted houses on the side. He worked with the State of Florida until he could no longer work due to his MS. Paul married Vickie Gallager in 1981 and was diagnosed with MS around this time. They raised three beautiful daughters. He was placed in the Lake City VA Nursing Home in 2006 and was divorced a few years later. The Lake City VA Nursing Home was his permanent home until October of 2023. Due to extensive medical complications brought on by surgery at Shands, leaving him with a trachea and feeding tube, he could not return to his Lake City residence. This caused him to start his downhill battle. Paul left his mark with everyone who met him. He was a kind and caring person who served the Lord. He contributed a portion of his income to a school in Kenya, Africa, which allowed the students to a better education. The family would like to thank his care givers Walteria Mercer and DeVane Deese, and Community Hospice in Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations be made to Hospice.
