Mrs. Sonia Sanchez

With great sorrow and abiding love, the family of Mrs. Sonia Sanchez announces her passing on July 9, 2025, at the age of 67. A beloved wife, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend, she leaves behind a legacy of gentleness, humor, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Born on May 22, 1958, to Sra. Haydee Casiano and the late Sr. Maximino Casiano, a proud U.S. military veteran, she was raised with strong values of service, faith, and family. These values shaped every part of her life. Sonia’s greatest love story began as a teenager when she met the love of her life, Santiago Sanchez. They were high school sweethearts, soulmates in every sense of the word. After seven years of courtship, they were married in December 1982, beginning a lifelong partnership marked by courage, laughter, and mutual devotion. They faced life’s challenges together—including Santiago’s early battle with cancer and Sonia’s own health struggles with muscular dystrophy—always with grace and strength. Their love was the kind that lit up a room and lifted everyone around them. A natural caregiver and encourager, Sonia spent several years as an elementary school teacher in Puerto Rico, where she taught English to young children. Her kindness, patience, and gentle humor left an indelible mark on her students. Teaching was not just a profession for her—it was another way she lived out her calling to nurture and uplift others. Throughout her life, Sonia quietly and faithfully cared for others. She was a devoted sister, especially close to her sister who shared her health journey, and she lovingly cared for her brother with special needs for many years. She extended that same compassion to her mother-in-law, her niece, and all who were lucky enough to be part of her life. She had a gift for making people feel seen, loved, and cherished. Whether it was a Halloween outing, an Easter basket gift, or a shared laugh that made you feel like the most special person in the world, she gave of herself without reservation and without ever asking for praise. Her laughter was contagious, her mood ever buoyant, and her spirit like a breath of fresh air. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Santiago Sanchez; her mother, Sra.Haydee Casiano; and her goddaughter and niece, Veronica Bayó Clifford, whom she loved as her own. She was preceded in death by her father, Sr. Casiano, and her beloved sister, Mrs. Ivette Hernandez. Her love endures in those she cared for. Her laughter echoes in the hearts she lifted. She will be missed beyond measure.
